Penny: the Pegacorn By: Mackenzie Middlebrooks
Penny is a bay thoroughbred or so everyone thinks. She tried being a racehorse, but wasn’t any good at it because she is not a thoroughbred. She has only revealed her secret to me. She’s really a pegacorn or a unicorn with wings. When you believe she is a pegacorn you can see that plus you can see she is a different color every time you see her.
Penny’s horn and wings are invisible. Before I knew she was a pegacorn I could not see her horn and wings. Now I can see themvery clearly.
I came to know Penny was a pegacorn when I was feeding all the horses. I was in the feed room getting some grain when Penny said, “Mmmm I can’t wait for my grain.” I came out of the feed room and jokingly said, “Did you say something?” Then Penny said, “No, I mean neigh.” At that moment I saw a horn and two wings pop up, and I realized Penny was a pegacorn.
I know you don’t believe me ,but Penny and I go for rides all the time. We fly high in the sky. The trees part as we go by. Sometimes Penny turns things into cute puppies. She even gave me a cute little husky.
Penny can make anything appear or disappear. So sometimes when I really need money I go to her and she always gives me at least $100. She only gives you money if it’s an emergency , so you can’t get it every day unless you’re really unlucky.
Charlie Barley • I don’t know how in the world she became a pegacorn. I did some research on her and her mom, Soft Stuff, and her dad Charlie Barley. They were both regular horses.
I have heard that sometimes they mess up the blood lines. One of her parents could have very well been a pegacorn! That will always remain a mystery though.
Penny’s horn is the biggest part of believing she is a pegacorn. If you can’t see it, it’s very hard to believe even when you look at pictures. It does not matter though because I know it’s true.
I have always wanted to see a horse with wings and a horn, so I could not believe it when I finally did. Especially since that horse was at my house. I felt her wings and I brushed her. Then when I was done she said “Sit on my wing.” I sat on her wing as she flapped it up and down like a bucking bull. It was so much fun.
The next thing I did was ask if we could go on a ride. She said “Yes if you don’t mind going bareback,” I was hesitant but got on anyway, and we went for quite a ride. She soared high in the sky. On a regular horse being bareback and flying high in the sky I would have fallen off, but I guess her magic held me on.
While I was in the air my mom was wondering what was in the air. Later, she decided it was the mist. She had heard of the mist from The Lost Hero . The mist makes mortals mix things up she thought to herself.
When I landed my mom asked me if I saw what was in the sky. I told her it was me. I was riding Penny. I also told her how Penny was a unicorn and she had wings. She asked why I was all of a sudden lying. I told her I wasn’t lying. She told me to prove it at riding lessons or I was grounded.
At lessons Penny and I flew high in the sky. My mom said she wouldn’t ground me, but she knew I had done something special. I did not do anything special, but I did not argue.
Still today no one believes me, but I go riding on Penny everyday. I guess everyone thinks pegacorns are fake. Penny and I don’t care. We have fun just the way things are. We find joy in the mist. • THE END Dedicated to the ones who believe !
