African Americans in Congress • During Reconstruction, African Americans began to have power in Virginia’s government, and men of all races could vote.
Jim Crow Laws • Laws passed by southern states that established segregation or separation of the races and reinforced prejudices held by whites.
What is a prejudice? • Unreasonable opinion about someone • Sometimes the white people would call the black people mean names
