Association Européenne des Fabricants de Réactifs Vétérinaires European Manufacturers of Veterinary Diagnostics EMVD History… • SIMV organizes “kick off meeting” in St Malo in Autumn 2005 to resuscitate the AEFRV initially created in 2000 • Following the launch of the OIE procedure 2005 • First official meeting in March 2006 in Brussels • Association defending the interests of the sector • Mainly small or medium sized companies • However: together we represent the majority of veterinary diagnostics producers in the world: • Most members have global presence • Concentration of this market in EU (AH market has a Diagnosis approach rather than a vaccination approach) • We aim for a strong European representation…

Association Européenne des Fabricants de Réactifs Vétérinaires European Manufacturers of Veterinary Diagnostics EMVD Organization and Operation • When the EMVD needs to be represented, the Chair; Secretary, VP, SIMV or any other member can represent the association • Thanks to the contract with SIMV (7.5 k€ annual budget - compare with IFAH 1,7 M€) we are able to maintain: • our legal entity with legal statutes • Website • Offices at disposal in Paris: We currently meet twice a year: appropriate rhythm • Additional manpower is present for representation of our association • As the frequency of our meetings are not very high, it is important for members to participate in our meetings  Your involvement is crucial for the success of our association

Association Européenne des Fabricants de Réactifs Vétérinaires European Manufacturers of Veterinary Diagnostics EMVD Achievements since 2005 • We became an actor instead of a spectator: monitor (& influence) regulatory changes that affect our business • Recognized representative (because of our global presence) for NGO such as OIE, with the objective to improve animal health • EMVD participated as “Observer” in the OIE ad hoc group on Validation of diagnostic assays • EMVD represents the AH diagnostic sector in IAEA/FAO/OIE joint meetings • During our last meeting in Vienna we were invited by the EU Commission to present a “problem definition” to DG Sanco • We became a recognized representative organization defending the animal health diagnostics industry on a European level towards EU regulators in conferences, committees and consultations • We became a recognized representative organization within the veterinary health industry (Eu commission, FVE, EDMA, FESAS…)

Association Européenne des Fabricants de Réactifs Vétérinaires European Manufacturers of Veterinary Diagnostics EMVD Achievements since 2005 (2) • Details on our investment and participation in different European initiatives: • DG Sanco Vaccine task force 2008-2009 • Animal Health Advisory Committee AHAC of the general directorate of consumers’ health (DG Sanco) of the European commission • Executive board of the European Technology platform for global animal health – ETPGAH lead by IFAH • presence in the Project Management Board of Discontools (result from ETPGAH initiative), enabling the relay of relevant information to its members lead by IFAH • Concrete realization: creation of a mapping document of available veterinary diagnostics (for Discontools) updated regularly, centralized by SIMV

Association Européenne des Fabricants de Réactifs Vétérinaires • Dialog with EU commission: • Find support for an • AH IVD directive • Dialog with the OIE: • converge interests • support initiative for harmonization European Manufacturers of Veterinary Diagnostics EMVD Our Priorities Express need for Harmonization to regulate veterinary Diagnostics in the EU Denounce Unfair competition from public laboratories Promote mutual recognition of batch control by EU Member States

Association Européenne des Fabricants de Réactifs Vétérinaires European Manufacturers of Veterinary Diagnostics EMVD Objectives for the future • Continue to profile the AH diagnostics sector as an important actor to improve animal health • Support / drive the initiative of a legal framework for AH diagnostics and defend the “Problem definition” to DG Sanco • Continue to partner animal Health initiatives: • Epizone • Discontools • ETPGAH • OIE, FAO and IAEA • Etc.
