Open Forum Guidelines • Is open – audience involvement sought • Open, but not unlimited • 1-2 minute floor questions • Moderator reserves right to interrupt, call on others, conclude, change subject, etc. • Harangues not allowed • No applause, demonstrations • (Amens allowed) • TM is not the church, but as individual Christians we will observe 1 Cor 14:40

Open Forum Guidelines • TM does not determine “orthodoxy” • TM does not want to do so! • Cannot make brotherhood policy Q: “Trying to sell the farm?” A: “Who’s got the deed?” • We are not brotherhood “watchdogs” • We provide written/oral forums for brethren to discuss various issues • Reasonable opportunity for response • Subject to editor/moderator discretion • We ARE seeking to find and teach truth

  5. Question #1 • Why don’t you ask those you disagree with, and even call by name, to speak? • Why limit your lectureship to those who agree with you?

In the magazine, through our tracts and other Bible study materials, and at our annual lectureships, we have frequently emphasized that we are a medium for study, not a mechanism for establishing or enforcing “brotherhood policy,” whatever that may mean to various individuals.

  9. Answer #2 • A woman is “not to teach or usurp authority over a man.” • Whatever this text teaches, two things are clear and undeniable: • If a woman is not teaching a man, this text does not apply to her • If the one being taught is not a man, this text does not apply to him

Baptized Boy a Man? • So the question is, how can a 9-year-old boy be a “man?” • If the Holy Spirit identified Jesus as a “child” when he was 12 (Luke 2:40,43), how can a 9-year-old be a “man?” • How is someone who is prepubescent, cannot reproduce, drive, hold a job, legally, vote, serve in the military, etc. a “man?”

  11. Concerning Church Discipline • What is our responsibility toward those outside our local congregation who become unfaithful – but the church takes no action? • For example: a former member who has moved away, but still has connections with some of our local members.

  12. Answer #3 • Christians should use every opportunity to teach the truth – including this one • To the wayward • To those who support/“cover” for them • Those who gossip about them • Those who are “swift to speak, slow to hear” (contra James 1:19) • Scenarios
