  3. Common Core • Language arts additional focus on expository reading and writing • Math additional focus on problem solving • Mathematical Practices

  4. Organization is Key! • Please help your child clean out his/her backpack and binders. • Review planners on a nightly basis. • Language Arts/ Social Studies has weekly agenda. • Sign Red Hot Record – Nightly for reading & weekly for IXL • Check Jupiter Grades and class website weekly

Homework • Approximately one hour a day • Sign RHR nightly for Ms. Daprile and weekly for Ms. Williams • Purpose: • Reinforce, enrich, extend • Establish work and study habits • Foster independence and responsibility • Develop time management skills • Homework Club • Mon – Thurs. 2:45 – 3:25 (except for minimum Wednesdays)

  7. Grades • Weighted Percentages • Jupiter Grades • Other forms of assessments: • Participation credit • Rubrics • Self-grades/reflection forms • Notebook checks • Binder Checks

  8. Birthday Treats • We enjoy acknowledging birthdays at CSMH! In keeping with our school philosophy that healthy bodies create healthy minds, we are not allowing birthday treats of any kind on campus. Students are invited to donate a favorite book to our class library or a game that is a favorite of your family to our game closet as an alternative.  Invitations are not to be passed out on school campus or will not be distributed via Friday folders unless the whole class is invited.

Language Arts • Word Processing skills • Fluency and comprehension assessments • Classroom novels, literature circles, short stories • Expository: reading and writing to inform • Daily Grammar Practice • Literature Response Journals • Greek and Latin Roots and embedded vocabulary • Spelling rules: most often misspelled words • Writing Workshop

  10. Social Studies • Focus on ancient world • Utilize TCI curriculum – History Alive • Hands on investigation and research • Ancient civilization project in the spring • Greek Festival in March • Study Guides and Unit tests

  12. ESPAÑOLTeacher: Maestra Mitoma We’re having a great start to the year! Here’s a little about this year’s Spanish program: Program • Will develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing • Students will be introduced to ¡Buenviaje! - the Spanish 1 textbook used by MHUSD (6th grade will cover information from the first 2-3 chapters; 7th and 8th grades will cover remaining chapters) Homework • Generally assigned once per week • Graded based on effort • Late work is not accepted! Spanish grade • Based on class work/homework, participation, quizzes/tests, and projects/special assignments • Assignments and grades will be on Jupitergrades Communication • 6th grade website will include Spanish news • E-mail Lmitoma@csmh.org with questions, or stop by Mrs. Daprile’s room after school on Tuesday or Thursday • Students are strongly encouraged to e-mail me themselves if they have questions! Other • Unless otherwise communicated, procedures (homework, behavior, etc.) are the same as those of Ms. Williams and Mrs. Daprile • Please contact me if you can help out – whether you speak Spanish or not!
