Introduction • Personal Information • Educational Experience • Professional Experience
Thesis Discussion • Depositional Environments of the Jurassic Gypsum Spring Formation, Bighorn Basin, Wyoming • Gypsum Spring Formation comprised of three units representing a regressive/transgressive/regressive cycle of deposition in a breached barred evaporative basin • Middle unit is fossiliferous – found several unidentifed decopods
3D Reservoir Modeling The goal of reservoir modeling is to develop the most reasonable and realistic interpretation of the subsurface possible.
The Reservoir Framework • Essential to creating geologically realistic model • Defines structure and stratigraphy of reservoir • Correlates to well data • Correlates to Seismic Data • Surface and Fault Data must be cleaned • Surface/Fault relationships must be resolved • Models are built in the same manner as sediment deposition, ie, oldest units are at the bottom • Build footwall fault blocks first and the hanging wall fault blocks
Simplistic framework model showing grid ordering with two normal faults Unconformity Grid 3 Grid 2 Grid 7 Grid 7 Fault 4 Fault 5 Grid 6 Grid 6 Independent
Closing Comments • Reservoir Modeling is in the fore front of the E&P industry • Advancements in computer modeling technology enable larger and better resolution models to be constructed
