  2. Why was it important to the citizens of France? • Allowed people to become more human-like • Equality came into picture • Politically, not between men and women • Helped in the abolition of the feudal order

What was it modeled after? • Modeled after the Declaration of Independence of the United States • Guaranteed basic liberties and rights • Granted rights: freedom of speech & religion, office was open to men, private property, liberty, inviolability. • Acted as an attack on the pre-Revolutionary monarchical regime

  4. (Continued) • Prevented abuse by the king and/or his administration • First step towards creating a constitution • Preserved the rights of being equal and free • Office was open to the third estate—MEN ONLY.
