  2. asset– Is a resource, person, or object that is valuable to have While hiking through the woods, it would be an asset to have a guide who knew where to go.

  3. intently– You do something with great concentration The student studied the vocabulary words intently since she knew there was a test on Friday.

  4. profusely– It is done in great quantity Sam apologized profusely when he knocked over his mother’s favorite vase and shattered it.

  5. ordeal– Is a very difficult experience that is unpleasant to go through Climbing a mountain is quite an ordeal for the inexperienced since it takes practice, skill, and stamina.

  6. terrain– Is the kind of land that is found in a place; for example, terrain might be rocky, hilly or swampy The desert terrain is both rocky and sandy making it difficult for plants to grow there.

  7. dismal– Is bleak and depressing On dismal days, I would rather stay in bed all day and hide under the covers.

  8. peril– Great danger The people on the boat were in great peril as the waves knocked the boat on its side.

  9. esteem– To esteem something means to judge it to be of value If you have self-esteem, you judge yourself to have great value.
