New eligibility criteria for Portage and SEN Early Years Team and Educational Psychology • New criteria has been introduced from 1st June and you can find this on our web page • www.northamptonshire.gov.uk and search for Portage or • http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/en/councilservices/EducationandLearning/sen/Pages/Portage.aspx
The criteria is linked to the Early Years Descriptors and requests for our involvement can be made for children: • Aged 0-5 with a diagnosed need or syndrome • Aged 0-2 with a need in any of the following • More than 6 months delay in any area of development • Moderate severe or profound hearing loss impacting on development
Moderate, significant or very significant visual loss, impacting on development • Multi sensory impairment with impact on development • Physical impairment with severe impact on development • For children aged 2-5, a child needs to have a specific individual support need or higher needs (with reference to the descriptors) in two of the following areas:
Sensory • Physical/Medical • Communication and Interaction • Play, Cognition and Learning • Social, Emotional and Behavioural

Gap Task! Support a practitioner in your setting to: Identify a child who is not achieving as expected, or may have/has an identified additional need. This could be via the 2 year progress check. What arrangements have you made for this child? What observations and assessments have you done for this child? Include any IEPs, targets or reviews you write for this child Briefly write up a description of what you have done – approximately 500 words, and include pictures of or examples of anything you have made or used for arrangements (visual schedules, activities etc) Bring this information to the next session and be prepared to share it in small groups, and leave a copy of your written description. This will qualify you for your SENCo/Inclusion Manager certificate! If anyone can offer to host this session, please let us know.
