What is a Smart Phone? • A SmartPhoneis considered to be the combination of the traditional PDA and cellular phone, with a bigger focus on the cellular phone part. Usually supports advanced features like e-mail and Internet capabilities, and/or a full keyboard. • First Smartphone: IBM & Bellsouth’s Simon. Launched in 1993 it combined the features of a mobile phone, a pager, a PDA, and a faxmachine. Had no physical buttons to Dial with, used a Touch Screen with ‘predictive’ keyboard OR a qwerty keyboard. • A total 118 million SmartPhoneswere sold last year, up 53% from 2006 • No Industry agreement on the definition of a Smart Phone
