  1. News and Issues for FNAL BT S. Uozumi Apr-10 2008 ScECAL meeting

  2. Flat cables • We have requested : • Cables with almost same or simpler structure than ones we have used at DESY BT, but longer (1~1.5m), more robust (especially around connector), and cheaper! • 240 cables + 5~10% spare (120+spare each for left and right-handed layout) • News from Repic : • Making cables up to 3 m is possible, but may take some time and money. • Structure around the connector is improved, therefore we will have no dead channels any more. • Num. of layers structure has been simplified to reduce production cost. • Delivery time and price are under estimation.

  3. Available MPPCs • Necessary amount : 2160 + spare = 2270 ~ 2490 • 72 channels in a layer • For 30 layers, 72 x 30 = 2160 + 5~10% spare necessary • Available MPPCs : ~ 2300 (quality not yet precisely checked) • 1500 will be delivered from Hamamatsu • 160 from KNU • 450 on flat cables in Japan (Shinshu, Kobe, KEK) • 190 unused in Japan (Tokyo, Shinshu, Tsukuba) • About 2300 pieces available in total • We may somehow have necessary amount + 5% spare if there is completely no trouble with re-soldering. • However still better to keep 6 cm strip option ? • With 6 cm strips, we will just need 1620 + (80~160) MPPCs. • Is it really hopeless to buy 100~200 more pieces ?

  4. How we cover the scintillator strips? A couple of ideas : • White paint on edge (or something better paint or tape), and put reflector sheet on top and bottom. • Easy to do even for 10-million strips at actual ILC detector. • Performance has been checked at KEK BT. • White paint on edge may affect to light yield. • May have optical X-talk between neighboring strips ? but actually at KEK BT we saw no large X-talk with white separator… • Completely wrap the strips with reflector sheet • May give the best light yield. • Wrap tightly may be difficult, resulting to have some space between scintillator and reflector? • Need to wrap 2200 strips, we will do the same thing for 10 millions? • Better to check with a bench-test to see difference of light-yield and amount of X-talk ?
