Scope • 54 IT FTEs including 10 enterprise IT ‘infrastructure’ FTEs • 80 Servers • ~1100 PC’s • ~1200 switch ports • 31+ locations Version 6
Approach • Team assessed IT infrastructure FTEs, organization structure, processes, funding and physical IT assets. • Team developed “future state profiles” addressing the Change Management areas. • Reviewed findings, risks and plan with agency senior management. • Organizational changes announced late June, effective July 1st. • Change Management area ‘services’ being rolled out through summer. Summary of changes and benefits Desktop Management • Organize and evolve the desktop management organization by merging agency and ITS desktop technician staff • Improved coverage, skills and agency knowledge transfer, grow the desktop management service Service Desk • Implement service desk tool (iWise) for tracking problem tickets • Single point of contact for IT help; quicker problem determination and resolution Version 6
Lessons Learned • Consistent, recurring spending is required to keep IT equipment up to date. (some agencies omitted refreshing IT equipment to save current dollars but increased risk of failure and future costs) • More focus is needed on IT banding (some agencies had non IT employees in IT bands) • Splintered IT organization structures sub optimize IT strategy rollouts, skill transfer and IT training and employee development.
