  2. Natural Gas People are using natural gas as a transportation fuel more than ever and it will be a continued trend • Dramatic Increases in Gasoline/Diesel Pricing • Attention to Environmental Concerns – Clean Air Advocates • Cap and Trade

  3. Compressed Natural Gas RT’s History with CNG • Conversion from a diesel fleet to a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fleet. • RT’s conversion to CNG prompted other area transit agencies to follow, including the Yolo County Transportation District. • - RT successfully completed the fleet conversion and retired the last diesel bus in 2004. • 100 percent CNG bus fleet has saved $8 to 11 million per year in diesel fuel at current California prices.

  4. Compressed Natural Gas RT’s Fueling Facilities • 1993– RT began operation of its first CNG fueling facility • 2004– RT retired last diesel fueled bus, expanded to five compressors at BMF1 and purchased property on former McClellan Air Force Base • 2010/2011– RT completed environmental review, design and technical specifications for second CNG fueling facility at McClellan Park known as BMF2 • 2013– RT completed $34 million construction of Phase 1 for BMF2 adding a new CNG fueling facility and first fueling agreements with Twin Rivers School District and Robla School District were executed

  5. CNG Fueling Facility BMF2 Project Schedule Phase 2 Install bus wash to support 125 buses; Advance civil and structural work to modify the facility and bus parking areas; Enhance security systems and install communications equipment Phase 1 Acquire property and building; Install additional compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling system Phase 3 Increase bus storage and maintenance area capacity

  6. CNG Fueling Facility Construction of Fueling Facility at BMF2 • Advancingproposed gas route beginning with drilling under the tracks to connect to PG&E’s gas transmission line

  7. CNG Fueling Facility Construction of Fueling Facility at BMF2 • Vision and Concept for CNG Service Building and Equipment Yard • Before Construction

  8. CNG Fueling Facility Construction of Fueling Facility at BMF2 • Demolition • Site Preparation

  9. CNG Fueling Facility Construction of Fueling Facility at BMF2 • Site Work and Equipment Installation

  10. CNG Fueling Facility Construction of Fueling Facility at BMF2 • Site Work and Equipment Installation

  11. CNG Fueling Facility Construction of Fueling Facility at BMF2 • Near Completion

  12. CNG Fueling Facility Elements of Fueling Agreement • Check Equipment Capability Requirements i.e. fuel receptacle compatibility with ANGI nozzle for Sherex 1000 and/or Sherex 5000 • Individual Vehicle information i.e. vehicle number, pressure and volume • Advanced Estimate of Annual and Monthly usage of CNG fuel within +/- five percent of usage and plan of each individual vehicle • Required Training with RT Staff on Fueling Procedures, Safety Measures and Utilizing Fueling Equipment before Fuel Card is issued • Schedule Timing of Fueling for Sherex 5000

  13. CNG Fueling Facility • Sherex 1000 • Sherex 5000
