  2. Nature and Role of the Holy Spirit • The Holy Spirit has been involved right from the beginning of time. • Gen 1:1-3 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. • The FUNCTION of the Holy Spirit as demonstrated in the early Christian Church is not new. • He has been working with various people (i.e. only selected – mostly prophets) for 4000 years prior to the coming of Jesus Christ • He was strongly involved during the 3½ years of ministering time of Jesus • Then after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost – He has been mightily involved in the Church for the last 2000 years • Thus He KNOWS our every problem, and He has the answers to all of them. And we need to spend time with Him, to get these answers from Him…!! • Heb4:15-16 (MSG) We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all--all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

The Omnipotence of the Holy Spirit Omnipotent = All Powerful, Almighty, Supreme Out of all the “chaos” on the earth – He brought about the whole of creation – and He has been maintaining and supporting it every day ever since. 1Joh 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. Heb 1:10-12 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The Omnipresence of the Holy Spirit • Omnipresence = He is ALL Present everywhere – all at the same time • Psa139:7-10 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. • We can’t Escape or Flee or Hide from the Presence of the Holy Spirit. • There is no place where the Holy Spirit will not work or function in you or through you. • But we can cause Him to be Powerless – through our fleshly belief system • Mat 15:6b (Ampl) So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefathers), you have set aside the Word of God [depriving it of force and authority and making it of no effect] – in other words - Powerless

Poured out upon ALL Flesh • Joel 2:28-30 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. • This Prophecy has been fulfilled for the first time on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2: • Act 2:16-19 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: • But it is still being fulfilled today – meaning He still pours out His Spirit on people everywhere today…!!! • Remember – as the bible states very clearly Heb13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. • And through The Holy Spirit being POURED OUT upon us, we experience an INFILLING of His Presence, and then His Gifts will automatically FLOW through you. • This is for everyone – not just a selected few anymore. Anyone who chooses to believe can receive Him – and thus also His GIFTS !! • Joh16:13-15 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

  6. Gifts of the Holy Spirit • According to 1 Cor 12:4-11 there are 9 Distinct gifts of the Holy Spirit which can be grouped in groups of 3 gifts each: • Revelation Gifts – The Infinite God, Creator of the Universe is revealing His TRUTH to man • Word of Wisdom – to have INSIGHT into a situation (Prov 3) • Word of Knowledge – To KNOW the TRUTH about a situation • Discerning of Spirits – To KNOW/Recogniseatmosphere, character etc. (Acts 5, 1 Joh 4:1) • Power Gifts – God Imparting His own Powers and abilities to man • Faith (Heb 11:1 & 6) – Mustard seed (Luk17:6), Mark 11:22-24 – Faith of God • Healings – Mark2:1-12, Acts 3:6 – What I Have I give unto you… • Working of Miracles – Joh 14:12 – we can do what Jesus did & GREATER !! • Inspiration Gifts – Speaking God’s Word, Will and His Heart • Gift of Prophecy (1 Cor 14:3,4,39) – edifies, builds & encourage others • Gift of Tongues (1 Cor 14:2,4) – speaking mysteries & edifies yourself • Interpretation of Tongues (1 Cor 14:5-11,13) – to proclaim/explain the mysteries to all 1Cor 12:4-6: Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there aredifferences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there arediversities of operations, but it is the same God which works all in all. 1Pet 4:10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace…

How to Receive the Gifts • You Receive through BELIEVING First !!! • Then you Receive the Promise of the Holy Spirit • Act 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. • OR Devine Revelation – Eg Peter’s insight into who Jesus really was • Mat 16:16-17 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. • By the Laying on of Hands – By Impartation • 1Tim 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. • Joh 20:21-23 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained.

  9. How to Receive the Gifts • The Power of the Holy Spirit Anointing – Impartation in Action • Act 19:11-12 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. • By Desiring the Gifts - 1Cor 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way. • 1Cor 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. • 1Cor 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. ***************** AMEN *****************
