Inspired by the "100 Days of Happiness" challenge, 18 Weeks of Achievements is a hands-on project that replaces goal sheets for mentees. Each week, mentees are tasked with a different goal to accomplish within a week. If they don't achieve the goal, they are given a different task within the same topic. This project aims to help mentees take initiative and become responsible for their actions.

Original Idea (How it came about) • Our significant project of, “18 Weeks of Achievements” was greatly inspired from 100 days of happiness. The 100 days of happiness “challenge” is a personal project where you put yourself first, do things you love, and challenge your fears. • We chose 18 Weeks of Achievement because there are 18 weeks in an entire semester. The project replaces goal sheets and is more hands on with the student. Each week the student is tasked with a different goal and they’re given a week to accomplish this specific goal. If they don’t accomplish the specific goal, they are given a different task within the same topic. Their task is on a bright colored card that has what they’ve written on it to guide them through accomplishing their goal.
Target Audience • Our targeted audience was intended for the use of mentees. We also approached the counselors on possibly using this with specific students that they believe could benefit from this project. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to try this out with the counselors. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA
Delivery • The delivery with our mentees consisted of asking them if they would mind trying this new interpretation of goal sheets. After they agreed to help us, we slowly introduced the process of, “18 Weeks of Achievements.”
Roles Noemi Shawna • Designed the cards • Created topics • Created the step by step process worksheet • Produced the original idea • Helped create card set • Created topics • Cut cards
Impact • The impact that 18 Weeks of Achievement brought was that students had to take initiative to achieve their goals. They became responsible for their actions and how they approached their goal. This project helped a few of our students with communication and it also helped us as mentors get to know our mentees a little more.
Timeline Finished the worksheet for “Topics of Achievements” Cards came in from district Surveyed Mentees Picked the design of cards 9/11/18 10/18/18 11/16/18 10/10/18 10/26/18 10/15/18 12/12/18 9/28/18 Talked to the counselors about using “18 Weeks of Achievements We created the cards Tested the cards with our mentees for the first time Original Project Was Proposed
What we learned • Noemi- “You have to accept that not everyone is going to open up to you immediately” • Shawna- “I can’t help everyone, and I shouldn’t beat myself up about giving so much effort and not receiving anything back”
Strengths and pitfalls • Pitfalls that we had were thinking up of questions for our cards and trying to expand this project to the counselors and the other mentors. Another pitfall was that we didn’t have enough time. • Strengths that we acquire were our communication with each other. We learned so much from each other that we would have never known if it wasn’t for the project. Another strength was how our mentees reacted to the cards. They really enjoyed them and preferred them over goal sheets.
In the future…. • We hope that this project will expand the future achievements of future mentees and explore the mind of future mentors. We also hope that this project will make a positive impact on the future of the mentoring project. We also would like this to expand to the counselors in the future
