  7. African American Representation on Hollywood Research • African-American actresses and actors are more common on the big screen, but they are still scarce in bigger blockbuster movies, "with the stakes high, many studio executives worry that films that focus on African-American themes risk being too narrow in their appeal to justify the investment. Hollywood has nonetheless shown a willingness in recent years to bank more heavily on African-American actors and themes. Studio executives explain the lack of presence of the African Americans in supporting or starring roles by stating only 4 out of 10 movies turn a profit, according to the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers. But because pictures with nearly all-black casts come along more infrequently, they tend to stand out more when they fail. • The then and now 2014 Academy Awards were a turning point for African-American films, with the iconic film 12 years a slave taking home the Oscar for the best picture. in 2013 five African-American films were released(12 years a slave ,Fruitvale Station ,Lee Daniels, The Butter , Best Man Holiday and Mandela : long walk to freedom), The release of such films had a broader impact on the film industry with movie attendance by African American growing by 13% compared to 2012. • Some truly believe that Hollywood has changed with directors such as spike Lee and Tyler Perry who cast all African American films, and who have become such household names of paying the way further for the rest of the African-American community ,through both directors have significantly different ways of portraying the African-American community, the popularity of both directors seems to signify to some that the racial tension in Hollywood has ended. Adding to the movement, Disney introduced the first African-American princess, Tiana ,in 2009. People felt that the color barrier is breaking down in Hollywood. A majority of people may still see the thin line between Hollywood’s new attitude toward race and their old attitude toward race. The consolidation of a black presence in the movies and television did no signal the arrival of a postracial Hollywood any more than the election of Barack Obama in 2008 • Site: sphttps://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwiOgqX_oIjeAhXkLcAKHR5AAysQFjAAegQICxAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FAfrican-American_representation_in_Hollywood&usg=AOvVaw0Ebxdloiw23oNhYzpPtXb5elled the end of America’s 400-year-old racial drama

  8. African -America Representation in Hollywood relevant information Race in America cinema • The presence of African American. in major motion picture roles has stirred controversy since Hattie Mcdaniel played Mammy, the house servant, in  Gone with wind . Through most of the 20th century, images of African-Americans in advertising were mainly limited to servants. Race in American cinema has rarely been a matter of simple step-by-step progress. It has more often proceeded in fits and starts, with backlashes coming on the heels of breakthroughs, and periods of intense argument followed by uncomfortable silence.  African American culture Though the roles were demeaning for the communities with darker skin tones, some actors and actresses were so desperate to represent their communities or to change the ways of Hollywood they knew that any part is a part. Performers such as Sidney Poitier and Hattie McDaniel would do whatever they would have to in order to pave the way for other African-American actors and actresses.

  9. Feedback on chosen topic The focus group felt that my chosen topic was really good and also really open theme , because you get different opinions from public and is a relevant topic right now in our society and cover all ages, genres and race . Also that my subject is a good topic for magazines , TV and radio programs. My chosen topic had such a diversity of strengths , because allow people them to be free and and give their own view . SWOT ANALYSIS OPPORTUNITIES THREATS STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES Problems to get the camera to record Feeling nervous to approach people I didn’t know in the beginner how to use the recorder . Gain experience of dealing with people , work in a TV or a radio I need to improve my editing skills for moving image How to organize a small production The question was open Allow people to answer Good at recording audio and editing Upload my works from the record to computer

  10. Evaluation Presentation Notes In my project about Vox Pop Interview my role was being the camera operator, director, editor. For my project I have to do first a pre-production to make sure I know what I need to do and use. My voxpop interview was about African American Representation in Hollywood. My strengths throughout the project was: 1) I find quickly the right place to record the audio and film. 2) My pre-production was made on time and all cooperate for the best quality of the work. 3) I had the right equipment for the audio interviews. I learned a lot of new skills along the way like how to do a different shot on the same place for example; managing the technical aspects of filming, including the camera sound, and especial effects. On my view the my weakness was the time of recording, I have to work with time because I had a short time to finish recording in one day, and also was really difficult to approach students because they weren’t able to talk. I had to look for an emergency location to film, because the place that I choose was not available and it was the best location for my project. The editing as well, I missed some bullet point as: sound and some effects, because I didn’t use a microphone for the sound I have to use only the camera because I didn’t have other option. About the effects, I did not use any type of effects to change the scenario and make the videos more real and different. I am sure I will improved next time: 1) My editing skills, because I do not have too much knowledge about how to use some editor programs. 2) About sound skills, I need to learn more about sound recording and watch some tutorial about it, to improve and find some technical and creative aspects. 3) I need to improve also my composing still shots by changing the position and angle of the camera and try to find an angle in which the background is not distracting.

  11. Rationale justifying my chosen methods • On my Vox pop interviews project I used all the different types of equipment, because I had different series of Vox pop opinion in three different digital media formats. • One is the audio vox pop interview: for the audio I used the Tascam digital Audio recorder and a headphone. I used this equipment to record my audio interview and the quality of this recorder is amazing because has microSD or microSDHC media, the microphones handles up to 125 dB SPL with the sensitivity to capture every details and Variable Speed Audition that is really good. The headphone I used to listen to my interviews when I was recording and also when I was editing the audio on Adobe AU. I recorded one of the rooms of Westminster College. I chose that location because was the only available at the time and the sound was very clear and also the room was empty and I did not have any interruption. • The second one is the video interview: for the video I used only the DSLR camera from college and recorded all the videos. Why I used: because of the quality of the camera and for me as beginner DSLR offers goods tempting : manual controls, excellent picture quality and the amazing  camera lens (also known as photographic lens or photographic objective). I filmed the two videos on terrace café from the college because that location was good for my background and the quality of the video . The other one was filmed outside college because of the interviewee.
