Chile’s National symbols • Chile’s Coat of Arms has one eagle and one deer. The coat of arms of Chile dates from 1834 and was designed by the English artist Charles Wood Taylor. The top part of the shield is blue and bottom is red. The bird is a bird from the Andes and the deer is a rare animal in Chile. The crowns stand for the courage of Chile’s Navy.

History The territory of Chile has been populated since at least 2,000 BC. It was once home to the Ancient Incan civilization. By the 16th century, Spanish people began take over the country. In 1818, it got its freedom from Spain and became its own country.
•Chile's coastline stretches 2,700 miles long, running from the Atacama, the world's most arid desert in the north, through forests, valleys, mountains, lakes, glacier fields, the Tierra del Fuego and the Antarctic Circle in the south.
