An aging population will probably mean: • more hospitals • more retirement homes • smaller workforce • different consumers • higher dependency ratio (fewer taxpayers) • more pensioners • More younger people will probably mean: • more schools • more teachers • more daycares • higher dependency ratio • different consumers

  3. The census data can be used by government: • Plan for new schools and hospitals. • Plan for increase in pension needs. • Adjust immigration policy. (allow more or less immigrants) • Determine electoral boundaries. • The census data can be used by business: • Track population changes in areas. • Decide where to put new businesses. • Decide what businesses to open. • Market products to different age groups.
