NMSBA Information • It is Required by NM State Law & federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act. • A measure of what students should be taught and should be learning in each grade for each content area. • Aligned with New Mexico Content Standards, Benchmarks, and Common Core Performance Standards. http://www.ped.state.nm.us/standards/ • This year students will take a computer and paper version o f the state test. NMSBA Test Information • All New Mexico students in grades 3-8 and 11 Who?
The NMSBA Results • Include cut-off points for levels of performance • It is important to note that Proficient or Advanced levels represents a high standard. • The assessments are challenging because we must be sure that New Mexico students are prepared for success in career or college. The NMSBA Results • The data is used by schools and school district to adjust instruction, identify deficient academic areas, and align available resources effectively and appropriately. • The results helps the school to know how well their students are doing. • The results are used by the state to determine Annual Yearly Progress.

Preparing for the NMSBA • Students have been preparing through daily instruction, homework, and strategy groups. • All year long they have been gaining new skills, deepening their knowledge, and using their skills in many ways. • The NMSBA is a single annual measurement of their hard work and practice.
How Can I Help My Child? • Ensure that your child is at school on-time to test. • Note the testing dates on your home calendar. • See that your child is mentally and physically rested. • Do not remove your child from school on test days for appointments.
