  1. Art Major III & IVMid-Term Welcome to “Art Goes to School”

What is “Art Goes to School”? • AGTS or “Art Goes to School” is a volunteer organization whose goals are to enrich young lives through presenting artwork and its history in a fun, upbeat manner. • This involves researching, showing, discussing, and asking questions pertaining to a particular artwork. • Generally, the audience is Kindergarten through 8th grade.

  3. How does this relate to your Mid-term? • Your assignment: • You will choose one of the following artworks to research. • You are to become an expert on your assigned artwork.

  4. Researching your Artwork • You will research its background, prepare questions and practice with our class to prepare you for your presentation of this artwork to youngsters of Octorara. • This activity can also count toward a community service activity. (Fill out the proper paperwork to get credit for this activity).

  5. Word Document Link • In order to help you in preparation for this assignment you will create the following in a word document. • This word document will be a link to my web site (online). • See Hand-out for details.

  6. What if you want the same artwork as someone else? • During this demonstration, sketch (at least)TOP 3 choices of the artworks presented. • Make sure to include the artist’s name (correct spelling) and title of artwork. • The first student who sees me with at least 2 valid researched facts about this artist and/or artwork will ‘claim’ this artist.

  24. You will present your findings to our Octorara Youngsters. • Presentation Points to Remember: • Be positive, cheerful, enthusiastic • Introduce yourself as you wish to be addressed, and as a volunteer with ‘Art Goes to School.’

More ‘Presentation Tips’... • Expectations: (state clearly/list) Raise hands calmly—wait to be called upon—bottoms in seats • Reinforcements: Praise students when they meet your expectations (individually & groups). • Give at least a 5 second response time and say “I’ll come back to you soon.”

  28. More ‘Presentation Tips’... • Point out that these are reproductions of paintings or other works of art, not the original art. • This is one class where all the answers can be “right” answers. Everyone may feel differently about the same pictures, this is ok. Some people will like a piece, some will not, this is ok too.

  29. Yes, • Unfortunately, this means that you will miss some classes at OHS to participate.

  30. Begin researching NOW... • Remember, the early bird gets the worm. • These youngsters will really be excited to be taught by an Octorara High school student.
