The Israelites & Other Nations • Romans 11:22 • Severity – to Jews who rebelled against God & Christ – Romans 11:17,20 • Kindness – to Gentiles who had been “grafted in” – Romans 11:17, 19 • Back to Time of the Exodus: • 1 Kings 6:1 • Exodus Chapters 7-12,14 – Goodness (For Israel) & Severity (For Egyptians) of God • Exodus from Egypt & 40 year wilderness wandering - Goodness & Severity of God seen in this same fashion – Goodness (to Israel); Severity (other nations) • Israel succumbed to sinful influences – pattern of God’s Goodness & Severity Reversed

God’s Goodness & Severity: Jesus • From the Exodus to Jesus doing His public work, there is a period of approximately 1500 years • John 3:16,17 • Matthew 21:33-41 • Romans 11:22 • Goodness of God extended to all mankind with an offer of forgiveness – Titus 2:11 • Severity of the justice of God upon our suffering Lord

God’s Goodness & Severity: Jesus & the Gospel • John 12:47,48 “the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” • 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 “the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ” • Galatians 3:26-29 “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

IF There Was a Mount of Blessing & a Mount of Cursing • Which Mount would YOU be climbing? • We sometimes struggle to be separated from the ways of the world • We sometimes blend in more than we should • We make mistakes and we sin against God • Aren’t you glad we have Jesus to look to? – Hebrews 12:1,2

  8. God Continues to Give Us Opportunities • Romans 11:21-23 • Redeemed Through Christ -1 Peter 1:17,18 • What about YOU? • If today was the last day you were blessed with, would you be facing the GOODNESS or the SEVERITY of GOD?
