Guidelines and Process: • Pick a song that is significant to you, has some visual imagery and is suitable for school • Print out the lyrics and bring in for approval • Your image should not only illustrate the song, but also stand on its own as a good piece of art... good composition, etc,
Make Plans • Do EXTENSIVE RESEARCH... In order to draw things to make them look real, you must use imagery that looks real... Therefore, you must search things/images out (draw from photographs or direct observation, find images on the internet to draw from) • Make 5 good sketches, not 3rd grade material
Make Plans • The better your beginning, the better the end result. • Do not marry the first idea that pops into your head.. You’ll wish you hadn’t
Chose Materials • You may work with any 2D material of your choice. Pick according to the mood of the song. You may use more than one material. • Cautionary Whale…….Now is not the time to experiment with a new material.
Requirements • Paper is 16”x 20.” You may use materials other than paper if you wish. • Think composition, detail, value, color, originality and creativity • Originality and creativity are the top priorities in this project.
Requirements • Execution, detail, composition and overall appearance are key as well. • Project estimate of 10-12 HRS • Out of class assignment. Check out the materials that you need. • This is 20% of your grade! • EXAM DAY: 30 minutes given to finish last minute details, rest of time for class CRITIQUE
Timeline • Project estimate of 10-12 HRS • This is 20% of your grade! • EXAM DAY: 30 minutes given to finish last minute details, rest of time for class CRITIQUE
Remember • Your image should not only illustrate the song, but also... • Be a good piece of art... good composition, etc.
Not allowed • Musical instruments and notes • Images of the artist or band • Silhouettes • Rainbows • Sunsets • Logos and symbols. • Images of drug/violence/ weapons or inappropriate imagery. • No inappropriate language • ** A project will have images that are drawn and shaded well with value and detail. Get some photos to use as sources. Do not draw from your head.
Think about: scale composition design overlapto create one interesting UNIFIED balanced composition
While the end result might be an illustration of your song, it will also be a strong work of art on its own.
We won’t need to know the song to appreciate the artwork. It should stand on it’s own.
