About Me Mrs. Dewar I am excited to be back at Westgate! This is my fourth year here in 5-6! I am a graduate of the University of Phoenix with my BA in Elementary Education and I have my Associates in Business Administration. I am also licensed to teach K-6 grades with the state of Colorado. I currently live in Lakewood with my husband, my 2 year old daughter, and four-legged children. Previous to teaching I was a dog groomer. I have two dogs of my own and 2 bearded dragons- one of which lives in the classroom. I like to cook, garden, read, exercise, and travel.
Grades & How to Check • We utilize the Infinite Campus data. Please make sure to update this information with the office if you have any changes! • Students will check grades weekly • ic.adams12.org • Student Login: student id number • Student Password: firstinitallastinitalmmddyy
Grades • Grace periods for assignment due dates; students must request an extension ahead of time if needed to avoid impact on scoring (work will then need to be completed at home) • Highest possible score on late work is a 3 • Late work does not meet proficiency for responsible behavior standards • Students will be given the opportunity to improve work that does not meet proficiency. • If you child receives a 1, please have them redo & resubmit! • Highest possible score would be a 3. • Test corrections require an additional sheet identifying mistakes and making corrections.

Birthdays • All food brought to share with the class needs to be prepackaged and include the list of ingredients. No nuts please! • We will be celebrating from 3:15-3:30 • Students with summer birthdays are encouraged to celebrate ½ birthdays • If your child has allergies and/or dietary restrictions, it is a great idea to supply the teacher with safe alternative treats

Work at Home Policy K-8 Work at Home Policy Typically, Westgate students do not have school work to complete at home. We want them to have time to be kids, spend time with family, and pursue other passions. Exceptions to this norm are: 1. When a student has make-up work from absences, 2. When extra practice is needed to become proficient in a skill, 3. When a student has been unproductive during their class time, 4. When there is a special “at home project.”
Differentiation - Beyond Ability Grouping • Project-Based Learning with choice • Self-directed or group effort • Self-evaluation rubric grading • Social/Emotion enrichment activities • High expectations for every student • Learn to be proficient/advanced by working in whole groups, small groups, and as an individual
Gifted Education for All Each teacher provides gifted education to every student. This looks different depending on what activity is being done in class. Gifted education can look like: giving choice into how students show understanding, asking for a deeper explanation into the subject or process, asking students to apply a given process to a different situation, compacting a unit (covering content faster than originally planned), or pulling in higher grade level standards, to name a few. At any time during a class period or unit, we may use one or multiples of these to provide adequate education to all of our students.
