Device Design • Things we considered • Inefficient and Complicated • Displays Banner for last step • Able to be set off, and able to set off another device • At least 5 different Steps • Budget limit ($20)
Overview of Structure • Made of plywood blocks • Connected parts with nails, screws, and hot glue • Steps triggered by balls setting off mousetraps and weight releasing a clothespin
Summary of Operation Conservation of Energy mgh= ½mv2 Projectile Motion (y-y0)=(tanΘ)(x-x0)-(g/2v02)(1+tan2Θ)(x-x0)2
Rotational Kinetic Energy (uniform disc) KE = ½Iω2 I = ½mr2 Angular momentum L = Iω Elastic Potential Energy Ue = ½k(Δx)2
Issues • The project was confined to specific dimensions • Accuracy and reliability of materials • Availability of materials • Parts going off accidentally • Building supports for parts
Conclusions • Teamwork makes work seem like fun • There is physics behind all the motion in the world • In order to maintain simplicity, we made some assumptions in calculations. • Hot glue is key
