  2. Fluencies • Write name, #, date on fluency • Get your red pen. • Find your #1 clock partner • Switch papers. • Decide who will read first. • Put a / on any word skipped, mispronounced, or misread. • Put a ] after last word read when timer goes off.

Calculating your fluency • Find the last word you read and circle it. • Find the last COMPLETE line you read and scan to the # on the right. • Water you’ll need, though, you have some viable alternatives. 118 • You can boil freshwater to make] it safe to drink.   4. Finding your cold read score • Write the number of words you read on the “words read” line by Cold Read. • Now find all the words with a / mark on them. Count them. • Write these words on the “words missed” line. • Subtract the words you missed from the words you missed for your cold read total.

  5. Binders • The first thing you should see is your agenda. • Take a sticky note and flag today’s page. Dividers are in this order: • Reading- “Instruction words” should be behind this tab. • Fluency- Finished fluencies are filed here. • Spelling- Graded packets are stored here. • Math- “Computation” resource packet and graded tests go here. • Science- notes, handouts, lab materials, quizzes, and graded tests are stored here until test retakes are returned. • History-notes, handouts, lab materials, quizzes, and graded tests are stored here until test retakes are returned. • Extra binder paper

  6. The Fire Builder • Take out a piece of binder paper • Put name, #, date in top right corner. • On heading line write: • The Fire Builder by Gary Paulsen • Open book to page 20. • Look at “Focus Questions” • Using “Instruction Guide Card”, follow and track while listening to story on CD. • Homework: Copy each focus question. Write 4-5 sentences in response for each.

  7. Reading Project • Select a novel at least 100 pages to read. • Part 1: Weekly Reading Logs • Part 2: Written Responses • Part 3: AR test • Extra Credit: Finish project early!

  8.
