Battle of the Marne (1914). Begins the Stalemate (early trenches develop). French race to the Marne River to stop the advancing Germans- Many in taxis. This establishes the Western Front. Ypres 1 and 2. Ypres 1 pushes Germans back out of France. Ypres 2 introduces gas. The Somme.
