Pantex is developing an EMS that: • Will comply with DOE Order 450.1 and be a component of the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) • Will be modeled upon ISO 14001, Environmental Management Systems • Will achieve recognition by the state of Texas in the Clean Texas, Cleaner World Program
Management Structure • Pantex General Manager is Project Champion • Nine-member Team of Senior Managers to Oversee and Approve the System • Fifteen-member Team to Develop and Implement the EMS • Seventeen ISO Element Team Leaders • Every Pantex Employee to Drive the System
Achievements • Environmental Policy - Developed • Management Structure – Established and Trained • ISO 14001 Element Teams - Formed and Trained • Requirement Gaps - Identified • Plant Activities, Products, and Services – Determined & Evaluated • Significant Environmental Aspects - Documented
Tasks to Complete • Establish Environmental Objectives and Targets • Establish Programs to Manage Aspects • Record and Document the Process • Train Personnel on Environmental Awareness and Responsibility • Increase Environmental Communication with the Public and Other Stakeholders
Select Tools • International Organization for Standardization’s ISO 14001, Environmental Management Systems, for structure • GreenWare Environmental Software for assessment, implementation, & audits • Benchmarking Honeywell’s Federal Manufacturing & Technologies/Kansas City Facility for lessons learned
