THE ANALYTICAL STUDY OF RADON CONCENTRATION IN RIVER WATER IN GAUTENG USING RAD7 Energy Postgraduate Conference 2013
OBJECTIVES • Measure Radon concentration in natural water and soil. • Determine the energy released during the decay process. • Develop portable technique for measuring moderately high level of radon in water. • Compare Radon concentration levels with the international recommended standards. • Prepare regional radon potential maps.
MATERIAL AND METHOD RAD7 • Purge RAD7 until RH is 6% • Test – commercial water • 18 river water samples • Close loop aeration scheme • 3 hours run, 36 recycles Settings: Cycle: 5 minutes Recycle: 36 Mode: Grab

SUMMARY The radon concentration level in those areas may be due to the presence of Uranium beneath the soil as a result of prospecting
