SBIR Question Can I apply for an SBIR if I am working full-time at a University or a large corporation? Yes. However, the for-profit firm (SBC) must be established to receive the award, and it must be the primary place of employment for the proposed project’s principal investigator.
SBIR/STTR Requirements Entity must qualify as an SBC at Award Time SBIR: PI Primary Employment with SBC SBC Must do at least 2/3 [PI] 1/2 [PII] STTR: PI Does not Require Primary Employment with SBC SBC Must Partner with a Research Institution SBC Must do at least 40% and RI at least 30% SBC and RI Must Have IP agreements Cross Pollination between SBIR and STTR
