E. L. L. Mission • The mission of the ELL program is to foster an engaging, multicultural learning environment where students develop academic and social language and cultural competency.
Who Do We Serve? CCSD ELL program started in 2006 (11th year) Students range from “newcomer” to students who are being monitored after exiting the ELL program Monitored and exited with TELPA, ELPA 21 test, MAP, IA assessments, teacher and family input

Changing Demographics • 13% • 87% Two years ago 62% of our students were born in the U.S. First year of data, but four years ago there were less than 10 refugee students.
Admitting New Students... Time Per Student:2-4 hours min. typically during the school day. Positives: Immediate connection with the families. Families have a system of support. Challenges: ELL teachers cancel classes or are not able to support current ELL students for a large block of time. Prior to Starting School: -Gathering and evaluating prior information from past districts -Scheduling interpreters if necessary -Filling out all district forms -Assisting with process of immunizations/medical/dental appointments -Home visits -School tours - Creating a schedule - Administer TELPA test -Obtain school supplies/clothing/home needs -Coordinating bus schedule/bus tour
LAU PLAN/ELL STANDARDS • Continue to have an annualmeeting in May (Stakeholder meeting) to comply with state guidelines and review MAP, IA assessments, and ELPA21 data. • Access to the LAU plan is on the prairiepride.org website and can be translated into a variety of languages. • The state now has ELL Standards for K-12 grades.
Professional Development • New...ELL team is currently working on a web based tool to provide information to improve instruction to mainstream teachers. • New...Started an ELL Council meeting to meet twice a year. • New...Mike and Renee will continue to teach researched-based SIOP methods thru Grant Wood AEA this year, but this year there will be a SIOP 2. • New...Renee was a part of the ELPA21 Standard Setting Panelist and Table Facilitator in St. Louis this past summer. • New...Certified staff is in the process of obtaining certification in state modules ELP (English Language Proficiency) 1, 2, and 3.
Program Goals CCSD Action Plan: We believe in developing community partnerships. 1. CCSD ELL Program Goal: 100% of ELL familiesparticipate in conferences K-12. CCSD Action Plan: We believe all children can learn at high levels. 2. CCSD ELL Program Goal: 100% of ELs will show growth on the a Reading Screener at the end of the year for grades K-6. 3. CCSD ELL Program Goal: 100% of ELs will show growth on the Iowa Assessment Reading Comprehension Assessment in grades 2-12. 4. CCSD ELL Program 100% of ELs will show growth on the Iowa Assessment Math Assessment in grades 2-12.
Action Plan ACTION: • Collaborate with Teacher Leaders and Instructional Coaches to improve quality of instruction in the mainstream classroom. • Maintain the volunteers (students and adults) to support students. • Meeting the communication needs of a more diverse population, due to the increase in student enrollment. (ELL and NON-ELL families). • Aligning the standards to accurately reflect grading reports. (Gutsky)
