SUBJECTS • 310 participants completed a 16 item questionnaire • 49% Full-time faculty • 30% Adjunct faculty • 16% Classified Staff • 2% Supervisors, Administrators, & Management
SUBJECTS • The top 3 divisions that completed surveys were: • Science/Allied Health (16.5%) • Behavioral & Social Sciences (16.1%) • Math/Statistics (13.5%) • The top 3 departments that completed surveys were: • Biology (4%) • Allied Health (3%) • English as a Second Language (3%)
WORKSHOPS ATTENDED • In fall 2007, 60% of responders attended a workshop, with the majority of participants attending 3 workshops or less. Only 28% of responders attended flex day. • The most well attended workshops were faculty conversations (9%) followed by culture of evidence (SLOs), the community college initiative & student perspectives (7.5%). • Overall, participants were satisfied-extremely satisfied with the workshops they attended.
WORKSHOPS ATTENDED • In 2008, 53% of respondents attended at least one flex day workshop (n=132) & 64% of responders (n=198) attended convocation. • 56% of respondents fulfill some part of their flex obligation through flex workshops; 96% do so through convocation and division meetings. • 72% through participation in workshops during the semester
CONFERENCE/WORKSHOP & TRAVEL • 82% of respondents fulfill some part of their flex obligation through participation in cwt • While 66% received some monies from cwt, 9% of respondents were able to pay off the entire event through CWT. • 81% of participants used their own funds; 47% payed 100% of their own travel. • Other participants utilized Department/Division Funds (70%) or special funding from other college sources (41%).
WHY PEOPLE DO NOT ATTEND • Not enough free time (80%) or Bad day or time (74.5%) • So what thematic workshops would they attend? • Cultural understanding (23%) and personal enhancement (19%) • So what initiatives would they attend?

BEST TIMES TO PARTICIPATE IN STAFF DEVELOPMENT • Fridays are the best day of the week for participation • Not surprising due to the number of faculty not teaching on Friday • At least 20% of respondents stated they could attend a staff development event on the following day/time: • Tuesday 12pm (22%) • Wednesday 12pm (21%) • Thursday 12pm (25%) & 1pm (21%) • Friday 9am (24%), 12pm (23%), & 1pm (23%) • 5 pm (any day of the week) is the worst time to hold an event
ISSUES THAT IMPACT LIKELY ATTENDANCE • Topic Interest(Extreme Increase) 92% (56.5%) • Scheduling 92% (40%) • RSVP to an event 27% • Having childcare 9% • Substitute (57%) or Supervisory Approval (40%)
RECOMMENDATIONS • Revisit flex day and how it is arranged • Consider “Workshop Fridays” and potential conflict with other meetings • Raising awareness regarding substitute guidelines and gaining supervisory approval • Offering childcare with the CDC
