TEACHER PAGE Content Standards: * Students will apply their first ammendment right to positively impact a community concern. * Students will identify the branches of government and their responsibilities. Encourage students to work individually or as a group to copy the web into their journals and brainstorm possible actions. Invite them to choose one of the activities from the optional extension activity as a means of addressing the problem.

  3. Bill of Rights Ammendment I Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition. The City Council of Pleasantview is considering passing a law against rollerblading on city sidewalks. They argue that it is unsafe and a dangerous nuisance to pedestrians. You and your friends enjoy rollerblading to and from school. How can you use your freedoms under Ammendment I to try to influence the council NOT to pass this law? Ammendment I Complete this web by listing possible actions you could take.

Get a partner to pretend to interview you about this issue for a radio or television news show. Choose one or more of these activities.
