Geography: climate and land Essential Questions: How is their geography, climate, and natural resources connected to their daily life and/or jobs. France has forest, farmland, mountains, and plains. The northern area is all plains and there is a river(Rhine River) on part of the boundary of Germany. Frances climate in the southern area has a Mediterranean climate(hot, dry summersand cool, moist winters.) The northern area has a temperate(mild) climate and it usually rains. The east/west and upland areas have continental climates; in the mountains thunderstorms occur often. Some of Frances natural resources are iron ore, coal, bauxite, zinc, uranium, timber, etc.. Answer: France has mountains such as the Alps that attract tourists and other tourist attractions. France use to have a bunch of coal and they ran out in 2004. France is the leading producer of bauxite, or aluminum ore. France uses dams for 15% of their energy and nuclear power plants for 80% of their energy.

Answer to Essential Question Answer: One reason France is a developed country is because there GDP per capita is very high($35,500.) They also have very little poverty. They import and export with many countries. The standard of living has doubled over the past forty years.
Culture of the French Republic Essential Question: What do we need to know about these people to understand what makes their culture unique. Answer- Most French are Roman Catholics, but only about 14% attend church services regularly. France’s Jewish community has about 600,000 people in it(the largest in Europe.) Immigrants from Northern Africa have increased the Muslim population to 5 million people in France. The French believe that food is one of the greatest pleasures of life. Some believe that French cooking is the best in the world. Most meals contain a simple omelet or a plain steak with French fries. The French are very in to sports. They love football(soccer), skiing, horseback riding, and sailing. Cycling is very important in France(they host the tour de France.)
Current Events Essential Question: How has this event affected the US? Or how has the US affected that event? Summary- France has sent their soldiers to Mali to stop extreme Islamist militias. Answer- Many African countries have asked the French if they can send their soldiers to France. France has sent a requests for our help in Mali.
