Grade 4Bilingual English Program 2nd Semester Outline
Introduction: Welcome back to all our students and their parents! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing Chinese New Year and winter vacation. 歡迎各位家長和孩子們回到學校! 相信大家有一個愉快的新年和寒假。 I also hope that all of your homes and families are safe after the big earthquake!
2nd Semester Schedule • Next Move 4: • Units 6-10 • Write Right 1: • Units 5-8 • Talent Show: • “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
Next Move: Unit 6: Review Tanzania– Students will do a short oral presentation about the best places to visit in Taiwan. Unit 7:Colombia– Students will learn about Colombia and the focus will be on coffee production. We will do some coffee making and tasting in class. Students will also do a short group presentation about an interesting product from Taiwan. Unit 8:Greece– Students will learn about Greece and the focus will be on Greek mythology and they will do an oral presentation about their favorite super hero.
Next Move Continued: Unit 9:Russia– Students will learn about two famous people from Russia, Tchaikovsky and Anna Pavlova. We will also be learning about different kinds of music and students will do a short presentation about a type of music they like. Unit 10:Japan– Students will be learning about the special art form, “origami”. Each student will make their own origami object and then explain how to make it to the rest of the class.
Write Right 1: • Unit 5:AboutMy School – Students will learn about and practice • writing about their school. • Unit 6:This is My Best Friend – Students will learn how to write • about and describe others. • Unit 7:I like Winter – Students will learn how to write about the • different seasons and weather. • Unit 8:Come to my Party – Students will learn how to write an • invitation card.
Write Right 1 Continued: • If we have time at the end of the semester, we will also do some extended writing projects to review all the work we have done over the two semesters. For these writing projects I will ask the students to make either a photo album, a collage, a mini book or a poster –or all of them if we have time! • The students will also present their work orally for the rest of the class.
Talent Show: Our Talent Show will be on June 1st. We will be be doing the play, “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.” The play will be a combined performance by the Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 Bilingual class students. Each class will be given their own scenes, songs and characters. We will start practicing as soon as we have finalized our script and have allocated the scenes and songs to each class. Please encourage your children to practice their lines with you at home. This will help them with fluency and will also be a good opportunity for them to practice their English too.
