Neuse Clean Water Initiative: Protecting Water Quality in Wake County

The Neuse Clean Water Initiative, established by the Wake County Board of Commissioners on June 2, 2008, aims to safeguard drinking water quality through targeted property conservation. This cost-effective approach curbs polluted runoff and sedimentation, preserving the natural water cycle, wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunities. The initiative collaborates with esteemed conservation organizations such as Conservation Trust for North Carolina, Eno River Association, and Triangle Land Conservancy to secure and manage land acquisitions that benefit the local environment. With completed projects totaling 1,800 acres and ongoing efforts covering 3,919 acres, this initiative has protected over 17 miles of stream buffers and holds a total land value of over $19 million. Wake County's contributions, including the Creedmoor Road and Sinclair tracts, highlight the commitment to sustaining clean water sources for the community.
