What is a Community Plan? • A community plan is a public document which contains specific proposals for future land uses and public improvements in a given community. • A part of the City’s General Plan, it provides tailored policies and a long-range physical development guide for elected officials and citizens in community development.

Recent History of Peninsula’s Plan • Current plan adopted July 14, 1987 • 10 – 15 year planning horizon • “Expired” in 2002 • Most recent revisions made in 1999 • Predominately to accommodate the 1998 NTC Reuse Plan • Major policies were not comprehensively updated
City Budget for Updates 2010 CPCI Budget Peninsula is the Only GP Action Plan Named Community Not Funded http://www.sandiego.gov/fm/pdf/090430referral.pdf Goal:Work with District 2 Council Representatives to secure funding and timing of Peninsula update.
Timeline for our Update • As it stands now, our update will not likely commence until 2011, contingent on funding availability • Update will be a 2 year process at minimum 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Pre-update Interim Official City-Initiated Process We are here
What to do in the interim… • The City has prepared a detailed plan for the preparation of Community Plan updates. Goal:Review City-approved plans and take steps necessary to maximize success.
Peninsula Strategy • Leverage existing community interest to help set the stage for the update. • We have an opportunity to help the City identify existing information that will be useful in City-initiated process. Goal:Find ways to support the established City process.
Ad-Hoc Subcommittee Goals • Work with District 2 Council Representatives to secure funding and timing of Peninsula update. • Review City-approved plans and take steps necessary to maximize success. • Find ways to support the established City process.
Subcommittee Meeting Ideas • As-needed subcommittee meetings to achieve goals. • 4 community workshops to help establish a baseline of conditions to provide to the City. • Post-workshop subcommittee meetings to develop baseline planning document.
Community Workshops • Workshops/Meetings will focus on a theme each night • Strengths • Weaknesses • Opportunities • Threats • Culmination is a “SWOT” analysis
Anticipated Objectives • Leverage community interest to identify baseline conditions for the City-sponsored process. • Undergo a SWOT analysis to synthesize baseline ideas. • Present final SWOT analysis to District 2 Representatives and City staff.
