Here’s the correct punctuation • “Mom!” I said. • “I was... I was going for a rock, and Matt hit me in the head with the swing set,” I said. • “I was.” I said, “I was going for a rock, and Matt hit me in the head with the swing set.” • “Oh my goodness! We have to get you to the hospital,” mom said.
Now change the reporting verb (said) • “Mom!” I said. • “I was.
