OFFICE OF STATE CIO - FirstNet FirstNet in Oregon
OFFICE OF STATE CIO - FirstNet • There are more than 50,000 public safety agencies across the nation. Until now no single entity existed with authority to support and manage nationwide public safety emergency communications network for first responders across local, tribal, state and federal government and agencies. • Through intense hard work of many senior public safety practitioners that lobbied congress to get a resource that can be used to build and sustain this network specifically for public safety first responders. They were also instrumental in passing the Middle Class Tax relief & Job Creation Act of 2012 and getting it signed in to law. Known as the Spectrum Act. • The federal statue that was signed in to law in 2012 opened the door towards addressing the challenge and created FirstNet to manage the process by which to fulfil the overarching goal of making sure that the nation’s first responders have a broadband based network to support their communication needs.
