  3. SEE IT? HEAR IT? CLEAR IT !! • BLUE SKIES NO GUARANTY • SEE IT? …. OR ….. • HEAR IT?.........THEN, IMMEDIATELY, • CLEAR IT!

  4. ALWAYS ERR ON SIDE OF SAFETY If lightning detector sounds the alarm before thunder is heard or lightning is seen ….. suspend play immediately!!

  5. PRE-MATCH WEATHER • MONITOR DEVELOPMENTS • AWARENESS OF POTENTIAL STORMS • SCAN THE SKY • HAVE ADMINISTRATOR ASSIST • CLOSEST SAFE SHELTER POSTED & ANNOUNCED

  6. MORE ON LIGHTNING • HAIR STANDS ON END? • SEE IT? HEAR IT? ► CLEAR IT! • DO NOT WAIT FOR IT TO RAIN

  7. MANAGING A SUSPENSION • SEE IT? HEAR IT? ► CLEAR IT! • STOP GAME AND CLEAR THE FIELD • EVERYONE TO SAFE SHELTER PLAYERS, COACHES, SPECTATORS, REFEREE TEAM

  8. SAFE SHELTER • DON’T STAND IN AN OPEN AREA • IF UNCERTAIN, GO TO CAR WITH HARD ROOF, NOT A CONVERTIBLE • ROLL WINDOWS ALL THE WAY UP • HANDS OFF OF ALL METAL

  10. HOW LONG DO WE WAIT? 30 MINUTES, MINIMUM … BUT … IF MORE THUNDER AND/OR LIGHTNING: RESTART THE 30 MINUTES!

  11. ALWAYS ERR ON SIDE OF SAFETY • IF a lightning detector has sounded an alarm, play cannot be resumed until: • 1) The lightning detector sounds the “all clear” • …. AND … • 2) The last 30-minute “See It, Hear It” time has elapsed WHICHEVER OCCURS LAST

  12. ADVISING COACHES • FIND OUT WHERE THEY WILL BE • KEEP THEM ADVISED • LET BOTH KNOW • RESTART?
