Planning and Cost: • Plan ahead of time. • Where are we going? • How much ? • Cost of bus? • Lunch? Bring it, eat on the way, or eat there. • Dress? Be sure to check the weather.
Permission: • Permission from the principal. • Permission from parents.
Volunteers: • Plan for one chaperone at least for every 4-5 students. • Have information for students prior to the field trip. Ex: If exhibit is on the Civil War, present or provide lessons/information on the Civil War before going on the trip.
Where are we going? • Museum of Appalachia • Cost/student for admission: $5.00 • Bus costs: $225.00/bus. $5.00/student • Grand total: $10.00/student • Bring your own lunch. • Museum offers information/exhibits on Appalachian History.
Where else could we go? • East TN Museum of History • Cost/student for admission: $3.00 • Cost for bus: $225.00/bus. $5.00/student. • Grand total: $8.00/student • Bring your own lunch. • Museum offers permanent exhibits on: The First Voices: Cherokee Indians, New Voices: The East Tennessee Frontier, Divided Loyalties: Civil War, Brothers Against Brothers, Federal Power: Oak Ridge, TVA, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Birthplace of Legends: Emergence of Country Music, and Pioneers for All: Civil Rights Activists

Museum of Appalachia Lesson Plans: • The Museum of Appalachia: Lesson for Living History lesson plans can be found on the site. • Grades K-8
Assessment: • Use of a KWL chart. • This will allow students to document what they already know and what they want to know prior to the field trip. • After the field trip, students will be able to document what they have learned.
