Secondary Mathematics and Science - SMART Goal By June 2014, the Secondary Mathematics and Science Departments will provide professional learning opportunities to increase teacher content knowledge, improve pedagogy and improve planning practices as measured by a 10 point increase of student achievement on STAAR and CBA assessments.

  6. Purpose • Teacher growth in both content knowledge and teaching practices • Relates to Professional Learning Communities (PLC) • Promotes ownership of all student’s learning • Helps to calibrate everyone’s thinking

Expectations • Occurs at least 4-5 days prior to each learning experience, starting 2nd week of school • Administrator is present in all meetings at least through the end of October • Documentation of meeting and minutes kept • Follows the Protocol • Within two to three days of the planning meeting, the teacher should be delivering the lesson

Common Planning Meeting Facilitator Role - Key to the success of the planning process • Needs to be well prepared and knowledgeable of content and pedagogy • Will determine and notify teachers of the lesson that will be discussed prior to the common planning time • Will press on and push teacher thinking • Will hold all teachers accountable for discussions • Will keep the process moving

  12. Logistics • When will the planning sessions be scheduled? (during the day, before school, after school) • How will the facilitator work with the different grade levels/courses? More than 1 facilitator? • How will you communicate the common planning time expectations to your teachers? How will they be monitored?
