In 2007, CATA was awarded the Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). This award honors one public transportation system in North America each year, which has demonstrated outstanding achievement in efficiency and effectiveness. Systems are judged on their performance over a 3-year period. CATA is one of the few systems that are a two-time winner of this award. CATA first received the award in 1991. CATA was awarded the Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award in the years 1991 and 2007.
Since 1972, the number of bus routes has doubled to 28 and passengers took 10.6 million more rides in 2010 than in 1972. When CATA began in 1972, it operated 14 bus routes and gave 750,000 rides. The number of bus routes has doubled since then. In 2010, passengers took a 11.35 million rides on CATA.
