Why Do We Have A Graduation Project? • PA State Mandate – Chapter 5. Section 4.24 • The purpose of the culminating project is to assure that students are: • able to apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate information • communicate significant knowledge and understanding • Aligned with the district’s mission statement
Graduation Project A “Transition Plan” for the future after Neshaminy • Three components • Research • Writing • Presentation
Research • What are students doing after Neshaminy? • Career and School Research. • Follow directions online. • Helps students decide and prepare for career/education path.
Writing • Focuses on the future. • Compare/contrast options. • Requires additional school/career research. • Follow the step by step directions and assessment rubric.
College/Technical Cover Page Application (common or school app) Essay Workforce Cover page Resume/Cover letter Basic Job application Essay Writing Choices
Essay Choices • College Essay based on specific school or Common application requirements. • BCCC students write an essay comparing and contrasting 3 majors or 3 transfer schools. • Workforce/Military write an essay that compares 3 career options.
Presentation • Microsoft PowerPoint • Must complete Research and Writing before they present. • Students can present early. • Assessed using presentation assessment scoring guide.
Student Support • ****Neshaminy School Website**** • Graduation Project Office • Resource and English support • Large and small group meetings
Time Line for Class of 2014 • Research Due (Approx.) Sept 25th 2013 • Writing Due (Approx.) October 29th 2013 • Presentations Due January 6th 2014 • Students may present early at any time. • Students will be assigned a time/date that they will have to present.
