Mobilizing stakeholders at all levels (knowledge institutions, enterprises, governement, civil society) Expected impact: improved research and innovation governance; alignment of research efforts with policy needs; strengthening evidence-based policies; enhanced implementation and impact of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and CBD Strategic Plan; innovative biodiversity management tools (Biodiversity Management Toolbox), increased regional socio-economic and cultural development; enhanced international visibility of ORs and OCTs and the uptake of their good practices, expertise and knowledge; effective international and trans-regional cooperation among European ORs and OCTs and with third countries.

The PACE-Net Plus consortium - a broad partnership of sixteen members - ten partners are from the Pacific region, - including OCTs and regional entities, - four are European - one is an international organization, one a Europe-ACP organization * FP7 / Horizon 2020 • Excellence in STI • Tackling societal challenges • Supporting the Union’s external policies * A 3 year project / 3 million Euros * Coordinated by IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement)
The growing geostrategic importance of the Pacific-European Union relationship was recently underlined by the EU (Communication from the Commission and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs “Towards a renewed EU-Pacific development Partnership”, 21/03/2012). • The importance of enhancing EU’s profile in the region was also highlighted by the 3166th Foreign Affairs EU Council meeting and it is has been equally found that outlining the importance of the Pacific region to Europe requires continued efforts.
Main objectives of PACE-Net Plus • Reinforcing the UE-Pacific ST&I cooperation, focusing on 3 major societal challenges in the field of health, demographic change and wellbeing; food security, sustainable agriculture, marine and maritime research and the bio-economy; climate action, resource use and efficiency, and raw materials. • Enhancing the cooperation on innovation issues, helping in bridging the gap between public and private sectors.
Strengthening the Pacific-EU research cooperation partnerships, through the promotion of EC and MS&AC programmes, especially Horizon 2020, among Pacific research community, as well as the Pacific opportunities for European researchers. • Supporting the bi-regional policy dialogue in ST&I between the EU and the Pacific region.
