Version 1.0 School Census Autumn 2010 School Census Application 1
Click to select a folder to hold the Census Return and Report files. 3
It is very important to select a folder that is available to all users who will be involved with the Return, … but that folder must be secure as it will hold children’s details. 4
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the sensitive nature of some of the data stored in SIMS .net, careful consideration should be given when specifying the location of any folder into which you save sensitive data, e.g. census returns, imported and exported CTFs, etc. You should be mindful of your school's responsibilities with respect to information security. Consider which users have access to the chosen folder, especially if the folder is shared on a Server. The DfE recommends ISO27001 as the standard for information security, a copy of which can be found at http://www.itgovernance.co.uk/bs7799.aspx. If you are in any doubt, you should consult with your IT Security Officer before proceeding. 5
If you are sure you have selected a suitable folder you click Yes 6
New to the Autumn Census Security Message Defined by the user and printed at the top of all reports 7
You can add to or replace the security message that will be printed at the top of each report 8
Click to search for records that have already been created 10
You should enter a unique name to identify this version of your Return 12
It a good idea to save the file with this revised description. 13
All relevant dates are displayed, but none of these dates can be changed as that would not be in line with the DfE specification 14
New to the Autumn Census Calculate all Details Now checks for missing marks and gives a warning if any are found 18
Calculate all Details will calculate the information as necessary for all of the remaining panels. Attendance information will be checked for use of official DfE codes and missing marks. 19
There is a lot of Attendance information to interrogate so only proceed if you have sufficient time. 20
New to the Autumn Census Hours at Setting Support for two year olds as well as three and four year olds 21
We can click to jump to the screen where the hours at setting information can be updated. 22
Attendance information exists and the attendance codes are DfE compliant, so no manual entry of attendance information is required. 24
New to the Autumn Census Previous Summer Census Report added to allow the user to compare the Learning Aims information sent in the Summer Return with the information to be sent in this Autumn Return 26
If you sent more than one Return to the DfE then select the last Return that was sent. 28
Click to tick each record you want to indicate as sent in error. 32
Click to create the XML Return file and to run DfE validation across the file. 34
New to the Autumn Census Create & Validate Messages are displayed to indicate each of the major stages of this process 35
Missing marks have been found but we can continue as long as we don’t intend sending this to the DfE without dealing with them 37
