Community Based Management of Rural Water Supply – AAPNI Yojna • AAPNI Yojna is a saga of brave acts, dedication perseverance, and never-say-die mindset of the project people – five NGOs the Government of Rajasthan and the Government of Federal Republic of Germany. The consortium was, from the very beginning, clear about its approach, an innovative, hitherto untried approach – involving the communities at every stage planning decision-making, maintenance and management. • A veritable model of self-government! It soon became a people’s – Community Participation Unit (CPU), one of the wings of AapniYojna, became a people’s organization. • The CPU empowered the people. The people came to believe that they are the owners of the water supply scheme and they are the customers. This belief inculcated in them a sense of responsibility. They paid water charges without default;; they checked wastage of water
