BASIC PRINCIPLES: • Strategic planning takes you outside the day-to-day activities of your organization. • It provides you with the big picture of what you are doing and where you want to go. • Strategic planning gives you clarity about what you actually want to achieve and how to go about achieving it.
Strategic Planning Enables You toAnswer • What problems are we addressing? • Who are we? • What difference do we want to make? • Which critical issues must we respond to? • What capacity do we have/what can we do? • Where should we allocate our resources? • What should our priorities be?
TheNext Steps • What’s the immediate objective? • How should we organize ourselves to achieve this objective? • Who will do what when?
A Strategic Plan is a Blueprint. That is why it is important to: • Base your process on an understanding of the external environment. • Use previous work to extend understanding of the external environment and your own capacity. • “OODA” loop (Orientation, Observation, Decision and Action)
