  2. SWEET Success Introduction Public and private organizations have realized the benefits of empowering women, and have undertaken measures to make it a reality. One of the sectors of women's empowerment encompasses economic stability. Research has shown that when women have a voice and place in economic stability, it has a positive effect on the family and the community. Presently, there is economic instability in various areas of the world, touching developed and developing economies alike, affecting women profoundly. Economic empowerment of women at this time is crucial and in some instances, a matter of life and death.

Foundation for the Support of the United Nations, UN Office (FSUN-UNO) • The Foundation for the Support of the United Nations, UN Office (FSUN-UNO), has created a program to address providing a pathway for women's empowerment through entrepreneurship. There are many ways to achieve economic stability and the path of entrepreneurship is just one road to that stability. We, as many others, feel that in this space and time, entrepreneurship is a path that can be broadly applied and universally adapted. Because of the far reaching potential and the resources available to make ventures successful, FSUN-UNO feels that the launch of this initiative is timely, necessary, and critical to lives around the world.

  5. What is SWEET Success™? • Special Women's Economic Empowerment Training for Success (SWEET Success) ™ is a program that works toward an international standard of tools, inspiring and supporting women to start, grow, and sustain their own businesses.

  6. How will this be accomplished? • SWEET Success™ holds seminars by successful businesspeople sharing their stories and what they have learned in the process. • SWEET Success™ holds interactive workshops, teaching step by step measures to obtain success at every level. • SWEET Success™ conducts networking events to break attendees out of their comfort zones and gain new allies through community.

How will this be accomplished (cont’d) • SWEET Success™ reaches out with an online community of positive forums, articles and case studies, editorials, and connectivity through social media. • SWEET Success™ takes part in “Pay it Forward” initiatives, where successful participants help others within the program find success. • SWEET Success™ has access to business and executive coaches worldwide. Those coaches will be available for coaching intensives at reduced fees or no fee if the participant is eligible for a SWEET Success™ Scholarship.

  8. Why is SWEET Success™ so important? • Increased economic empowerment with women has the potential of making positive change in the world. There are economic and social consequences that occur when women bring home money. Women and men equally deserve a chance to have a livelihood, but women face greater levels of inequality and adversity. SWEET Success™ uses training, coaching and networking on a global scale, to give women a chance at becoming successful entrepreneurs.

  9. SWEET Success™ is conceivably the only initiative that singly impacts all 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG's).

In September 2000, building upon a decade of major United Nations conferences and summits, world leaders came together at United Nations Headquarters in New York to adopt the UN Millennium Declaration, committing their nations to a new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and setting out a series of time-bound targets - with a deadline of 2015 - that have become known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). SWEET Success™ can contribute to the realization of each MDG. Income within itself is not a cure-all, but within the process women may find self esteem through accomplishment, education, structure, supportive environments, and sharing of ideas for progress as a holistic approach.

  11. MDG 1. ERADICATE POVERTY AND HUNGER With women earning as entrepreneurs, they can feed and sustain their families.

  12. MDG 2. UNIVERSAL EDUCATION With women earning, children, especially girls, do not have to be pulled out of school because of fees or being forced to work for income.

  13. MDG 3. GENDER EQUALITY With women earning, there is a chance for cultures to change. Women can be viewed as useful and the potential of the girl-child seen in a more positive light. There is also potential for women in patriarchal societies to have a stronger voice with such progress.

  14. MDG 4. CHILD HEALTH With women earning, children can be better fed, and can focus on living the life of a child. Along with access to better nutrition, the income provides for better standards of healthcare/medications.

  15. MDG 5. MATERNAL HEALTH With women earning, more nutritious foods can be bought and better standards of healthcare can be afforded. Information through networking can expose women to helpful maternal care practices they might not ordinarily be exposed to in their present environment.

  16. MDG 6. COMBAT HIV/AIDS AND OTHER DISEASES With women earning, there is money to pay for medications, as the poorest households cannot afford treatment. Also, shared information through networking can educate participants through discussion of better health

  17. MDG 7. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY With women earning, sustainable technologies can be afforded and implemented to protect families. People can be lifted out of slums, or their condition within the slums can be advanced and improved.

  18. MDG 8. GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP FOR DEVELOPMENT With women earning, there is potential for increases in development of stable trading and financial systems. There can be an easing of debt problems by the boost in commerce. Networking can expose new information and communication technologies, as well as solution sharing

  19. We believe that SWEET Success™ offers a sustainable model for women to build their own enterprises by joining women in developed nations with women in developing nations. We have built upon the example set forth by the MDG's, that this must be a inclusive effort now and beyond 2015. Teaching entrepreneurship is more sustainable than aid, instills dignity, and provides for society-wide benefits. We will show across a variety of spectrums that entrepreneurial opportunities for women are possible regardless of age, physical abilities, socio-economic status, religion, cultures, sexual orientation, marital status, race, national origin, ethnicity, or any other artificial factor that promotes inequality.
