Research and Development • National Level: • Participation in the e-government Technology Foresight project • Participation in national scientific conferences on e-government • European Level: • Participation in the European Committee for Standardization project “An eGovernment Application profile and model”. • Coordination of two IST projects (eGOV and EURO-CITI) • Participation in many EC-funded projects (SmartGov, GRASP, etc.) • Active participation in e-government and tele-democracy clustering activities • Participation (2 members) in the panel of experts that identified the four future directions of e-government in the 6th FP (29 March 2001). • More than 15 peer-reviewed scientific publications in several conferences and journals • Members act as peer-reviews in significant e-government workshops and conferences e.g. EGOV conference (within DEXA), KMinGOV, e-government track within Bled e-commerce conference etc. http://egov.archetypon.gr

Metadata • “Data about data” or “information about information” • The use of metadata could: • facilitate the discovery of governmental resources by interesting parties. • Metadata may be also used to: • describe resources from various perspectives e.g. • to support archiving, • to protect intellectual property rights, • to manage change of resources etc. • Pre-requisites: • A standard “metadata element set” to ensure interoperability • Relevant guidelines for governments http://egov.archetypon.gr
Project Details • Project : “An eGovernment Application Profile and Model” • Organisation: European Committee for Standardization (CEN) • Role: Team leader of project • Dates: September 2002 – September 2003 • Deliverables: • CWA 14860 - Dublin Core eGovernment Application Profiles • CWA 14859 - Guidance on the use of metadata in eGovernment • Next Step: • Continuation of project for one more year (January 2004 – December 2005) http://egov.archetypon.gr
Project Outcome • Guidelines for the use of metadata by the public sector in Europe • Review of national and international standards on the use of metadata in eGovernment • Establishment of rules towards a common European metadata element set based on Dublin Core • Specification of 1st version of a proposed metadata element set for eGovernment in Europe.
