VHA-CM Certification Program • The GROW Model • Recognition of Mentor Certification: • Apprentice level: Core Training (1.5 hours) and less than 25 hours • Resident level: CORE Training (1.5 hours) + 25 hours of practical experience • Fellow level: CORE Training (1.5 hours)+ 50 cumulative hours of practical experience
Competency Development for Leaders • “Competency Development for Leaders in the 21st Century” (CDL) training program. • Purpose and intent - promote personal and professional leadership development • Based on the VA Leadership competencies • Creates greater opportunity for developing and practicing leadership skills • 6-month program, 8 modules, and close-out project • Topics reviewed: Personal Mastery/Critical Thinking/Creative Thinking; Results Driven; Leading Change; Building Coalitions; Leading People; Business Acumen
National Nursing Education Initiative (NNEI) • NNEI is a scholarship awarded to permanent full- and part-time • NNEI scholarships may also be used to pursue other advanced degrees in related fields. • Eligibility criteria • Covered Expenses • NNEI awards cover tuition and related expenses such as registration, fees, and books. • Scholarship funding limitations: The maximum funding that may be awarded to an employee enrolled in a full-time curriculum is $39,017.24 for the equivalent of 3 years of full-time coursework. • Full-time students have a maximum of 3 years to complete their education. • Part-time students have a maximum of 6 years to complete their education. • Service Obligation • Upon completing their educational program and licensure/certification, participants work as permanent, full-time VA employees in the occupation for which the scholarship was provided. • http://www.vacareers.va.gov/assets/common/print/NNEI_VA_Careers_Page.pdf

Office of Nursing Services (ONS) • http://www.vacareers.va.gov/careers/nurses/advanced-training.asp • Nurse Executive Leadership Development Program • Currently in the pilot stage – offers three week-long sessions of VA-specific leadership training to nurse managers • Nurse Executive Mentor/Mentee Program – provides guidance and support to Nurse Executives new to their role and/or new to VA • Nurse Executive Rotation – VA nurse executives have the opportunity to work in VA Central Office or ONS for two to four-week rotations • Clinical Practice Program • Developed by ONS to support nursing practice at the point of care • Field Advisory Committees (FACs) – comprised of field-based nurses in all nursing roles and levels of education
